Never underestimate what a random act of kindness can do

Autism Awareness with Schumacher Homes
July 08, 2022

UPDATE: While April may be Autism Awareness Month, it’s important to keep the efforts going year-round. Schumacher Homes is excited to announce that resulting from our April promotion, we have donated $10,776 to Akron Children’s Hospital. It is our goal to promote inclusion and awareness and we’re thrilled to give back to such a wonderful organization to further those efforts year-round.

We recently brought our son Andrew, who has autism to California to celebrate his 21st birthday and it was a trip to remember. As a rule follower, Andrew was excited to literally have his first beer at his celebratory dinner.

At the table next to us was the musician Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post. Andrew, a long-time fan, was so excited to see him. Concerts have never really been an option for Andrew due to sensory overload, so meeting Post Malone in person was a dream come true.

He was so incredibly kind and patient with Andrew. Andrew has a hard time speaking and Austin was so natural and sweet with him.

In a now-viral Instagram post, you can see both Andrew’s excitement and Austin’s patience during the interaction.

It’s important to remember to be kind every day as you don’t know others’ circumstances. All it takes is one small moment or gesture to make an impact and change someone's day.

Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability today that impacts how individuals experience the world around them. Behind all these numbers are real people – millions of children and adults.
