Worth the Wait: Building Lisa’s Woodside Modern Farmhouse

August 07, 2023

There is a saying, good things come to those who wait. And if you ask Lisa, her custom Woodside Modern Farmhouse was definitely worth it!

Lisa’s journey started like many before her, with the need for a bit more space. Before building her custom home, Lisa was living in the city but longed to get away from the hustle and bustle. Instead, she wanted to have a place that provided elbow room and privacy and came with a bit more land. Moving to South Carolina seemed like the perfect fit as it provides the space to have at least two acres of land and be a bit closer to family members.

After owning multiple homes prior, Lisa had a feeling that she wanted to build a custom home to help alleviate having to deal with issues that may arise with a pre-owned home. But just in case, she met with several realtors to see if an existing home may just meet her new home checklist. On that list included features such as plenty of natural light and a wood-burning fireplace.

Several unsuccessful tours later, Lisa knew that building a custom home was going to be the best decision to help meet her needs. The homes she toured just weren’t right and in the long run and required too much maintenance and effort to become her dream home. Lisa recalled, “I had been dealing with several realtors who just couldn't seem to get our vision when looking for existing homes.”

After seeing the model homes at the Columbia office and learning more about the history of Schumacher and knowing she could create a plan that she loved, Lisa was sold. She knew that by building with Schumacher Homes, she’d get the exact home she was dreaming of.

Because she didn’t want to make any sacrifices on a home layout, browsing the library of floor plans meant she could find something that was a perfect fit. Lisa was initially drawn towards the Heritage floor plan since it had the Owner’s Retreat tucked peacefully away in the rear of the home. The plan was slightly larger than what she was looking for in a home, so when she was introduced to the Woodside plan, it was an immediate yes.

The Woodside provided a similar layout with the secluded Owner’s Retreat and had plenty of storage space. Looking back, Lisa is thrilled with the layout and her new bedroom space has become her favorite room in the house. In previous homes, the Owner’s Retreat had taken a backseat, but now with her custom home, it’s a wonderful retreat. Adding double doors from the bedroom directly to the back patio makes it extra special.

In designing her new home, she was able to add special touches that make the layout work seamlessly for her on a daily basis. “We enlarged one of the bedrooms for my grandson,” Lisa said. “At first I didn’t see the benefit but now I do.” Other unique touches added to the home included additional windows for extra natural light and a coffered ceiling in the great room. Most importantly, she was able to get that wood-burning fireplace she wanted!

For Lisa, building her dream home was the best decision she could have made. “The final result was worth waiting for!” Lisa exclaimed. Watching the home come to life during the building process was the most difficult part but her patience was worth it. The joy she now has in living in a space that’s the perfect fit for her lifestyle and on more land is unmatched.
