Cindy and Tami’s Homeowner Story: Turnkey Custom Homebuilding

December 21, 2019

Sometimes life lines up so everything falls into place. It almost seemed that way for Cindy and Tami who recently worked with Schumacher Homes to build their new home in Asheville, North Carolina. The two of them had actually been introduced to Schumacher Homes when they were just vacationing in Asheville, still living in Orlando, well before they decided to move and build. On that fateful trip, they had not only fallen in love with the rustic sensibility of Asheville, but they visited the Blue Ridge model home and fell in love with Schumacher Homes.

After making the move and beginning the process of looking for a house, they realized that they didn’t want to compromise by purchasing an existing home. They simply couldn’t find an already built house that fit their needs. Nothing felt exactly right. Remembering that tour of the Schumacher Homes model from their earlier trip, they decided to go back and see it again. From there, they began looking at plans and available lots, and even went to tour Schumacher models in Raleigh and Charlotte, a few hours drive away. From that first experience with the Blue Ridge, they knew how helpful it was to see the different floor plans in person, walking through the spaces, envisioning their lives in a custom home built just for them.

Ultimately, they chose one of our newer plans, the Longview. Knowing how important it was in their own decision-making process to tour model homes, they opened their home to a Construction Open House during the framing stage to allow others to get that same experience. It was an extremely well attended event and even drew a customer all the way from Pennsylvania who couldn’t resist the opportunity to get to know the layout by walking through it.

Hot Tip: Building a home is a big decision.  It’s well worth the trip to visit our model homes, walk through the space, and get to genuinely fall in love with a floor plan.

Foundations laid, both literally and figuratively, Cindy and Tami were ready for customization. For some, this can be a daunting process, but for Cindy and Tami, not only was it relaxed, they actually found it the most fun. Why so? Well, that’s for several reasons.

New Home Consultants - They truly appreciated their New Home Consultant and Sales Coordinator, Stacey and Stephanie. With so much to think about during the planning, design, and building phases, it was important for them to have a great team on their side, walking them through the process step-by-step. They found that Stacey and Stephanie were incredibly patient, allowing them to understand everything that needed to be done and guiding them through the journey. Cindy and Tami’s work with their Consultant and Coordinator made everything a smooth process, enabling them to balance the input that they were getting from family and friends with their own wants and needs.

FrontDoor™ - In addition to the assistance from their Schumacher team, Cindy and Tami found the FrontDoor™ price quote system to be especially helpful, particularly in understanding the costs involved in each aspect of the homebuilding process. They loved that they could see where every dollar was spent as they went line-by-line, item-by-item through their custom design and finishing choices. Being able to see the total budget updating in real time as they went through their check list of must-haves and nice-to -haves made the process much more comfortable.

Preferred Lenders - Cindy and Tami told us that they were delighted to have gone with a Schumacher Homes preferred lender. While they had bought a spec home previously, and knew a bit about the financing options, building a custom home was a very different situation. Building a new home is of course a major event in anyone’s life and the financial aspect can be stressful.  This is why Schumacher Homes helps our customers by putting them in touch with a lender that we have worked with in the past with a proven track record of service, offering the best programs and rates in new construction. Their lender carefully walked them through each step of the process, describing how their new home financing would work, putting them at ease.

All said and done, Cindy and Tami could not have been happier with the building and customization process. They chose some wonderful options to enhance their home for their own needs. Like many of our pet owners, they chose wisely to go with laminate flooring which is durable and easy to clean, allowing their four legged friends to wander around without any worry that they’d be damaging the floor. Learning from their New Home Consultant that changes to a ceiling can really complete a room, they chose to add a vaulted ceiling with wood beams for a spacious, open atmosphere. In their bath they chose to replace the traditional bathtub with a more modern, tile shower and as they love to enjoy the fresh air of Asheville, they added a large deck as well as a screened in porch where they could enjoy the breeze without the mosquitos. All of these personalizations, plus more, allowed them to enjoy the home of their dreams in their new town, nestled in the North Carolina hills.
